Inclusion means that all people, regardless of their origin, their religion, beliefs, abilities, disabilities, or health care needs, have the right to be respected and appreciated as valuable members of their communities.
In order to create inclusive communities, we need to respect and accept each other exactly as they are and help them overcome any difficulties so they can develop a sense of belonging .
This is not always easy to achieve.
When it comes to young people , we can teach students the values of tolerance and respect by showing them the benefits of volunteerism and altruistic offer.
What better chance to share and help than Christmas?
Every year there is a big event taking place in town a few days before Christmas. Organised by the local teachers’ association, the Day of Love is enjoyed by people of all ages, students, parents and teachers. Everyone willingly joins in the big celebration as there are lots of games, singing and dancing. But above all, there is a big bazaar with beautiful arts and crafts made by students themselves. The money collected on that day is then given to families in need. It is not only about having fun, it is mainly about feeling the real Christmas spirit of sharing.
Our team really enjoyed creating different Christmas ornaments that were sold on that day.
Through this activity, students realised once again how important it is for everyone to feel comfortable and included and that even small acts can make a difference in someone’s life.
